JUST WATCHED THE FILM “WOMEN TALKING”

It’s a story of courage and strength after dealing with a horrifying reality that took place for the women of this community. The pain that they had to endure not only for themselves, but also their children at the hands of the men that were supposed to be their protectors. Although not all of them are guilty of the actual act of drugging and raping them, they were guilty of protecting the men that were involved by telling the women it was done by ghosts or demons. The women were also oppressed by the men of the colony as a whole by not allowing them a voice, a chance to read or write, etc. What makes the story worse is it is based on a true story of Mennonites in Bolivia. The movie was based on the book of the same name by Miriam Toews. In real life the women stayed. In the fictionalized account the women left the colony to start anew.
